Blue SteelCo's collapsible pit handrail eliminates the OSHA fall-protection gap around maintenance pits, trenches, and floor openings. It folds flat when vehicle access is needed and locks upright for personnel safety — no removing and reinstalling permanent rails. Powder-coated steel construction meets OSHA 1910.28 guardrail requirements.
Collapsible Service Pit Handrail
Every service pit faces the same trade-off: protect workers at the pit edge, or allow vehicles and equipment to cross. Existing solutions force you to choose.
Heavy steel plate covers require two workers to move and get left off because they are a burden. Removable handrails must be completely disassembled, stored somewhere, and reinstalled — workers skip putting them back. Pit netting does not prevent falls, it only softens impact, and carries a maximum 330 lb rating. Plywood covers deteriorate and create a false sense of security.
The collapsible service pit handrail eliminates that trade-off. It folds below the floor plane to clear the opening for traffic, then extends back into position when workers need pit access. No removal. No storage. No loose sections. One motion down, one motion up. That is why workers actually use it.
